Local's Favourites
As a local I have my
favourite shops, cafes, beaches and places
that I often visit in Torquay and Jan Juc.
But as a visitor it can be
hard to find the really great goodies in
town and exactly where
to go! So I'm going to let you in on my favourites.
TORQUAY LARDER
I am really enjoying this little shop, its
full of goodies for everyday and of course for special
occasions. From
relishes and chocolates, to pastas and cheeses there are so many
delicious
indulgences to be found. I am addicted to their hot choccies
at the moment - its made with
Lindt chocolate so its absolutely devine.
Along with a fresh tuna salad pide it makes a
great quick lunch.
The owner Helen helped me out last week as I was after a simple but
yummy dinner for my
husband and myslef. She suggested the 'Alligator
Brand' fetta, spinach and basil ravioli - fresh
from their fridge. She
also gave me a cooking suggestion which was delicious!
Dinner for two: 10 ravioli parcels
Sauce: butter, juice and rind of 1 lemon, chopped parsley (or any herb),
1 garlic clove chopped, parmisan cheese and cracked pepper.
Fresh rocket, parmisan and pear salad on the side.
Very quick and easy and so good. It impressed!
Then I followed with their 'Yalla' chocolate mouse that is the
chocolatiest, most velvety mouse
I have ever had. YUM!
So I highly recommend popping in and tasting some of their goodies.
Thanks Martina!
Torquay Larder: Yummy fresh pastas, pides and slices and more.
Torquay Larder: In the freezer is the award winning Gundowring Finest
Ice Cream flavours
- the Boysenberry is spectacular between ginger thin
bikkies! They also now stock
Phillippa's fresh baked goodies like
Hazelnut Macaroons, Belgian Chocolate Brownies and
Oat Pear Slice, and
on weekends Phillippa's fresh baked muffins! My favourite cookie to have
with my hot choccie is a delicous pistachio biscuit with ginger cream filling.

When you need a great Coffee!
Need a great cuppa but
have the kids in tow?
CAFE
MOBY
41 The Esplanade, Torquay Ph. 5261 2339
We all love a good coffee and a cosy place to drink it. Well one of
my favourites in Torquay
is Cafe Moby. Especially when you can take the
kids and know that you're welcome.
Moby is a quirky little cottage made into a cosy cafe right on the
Torquay foreshore
overlooking the water. It caters for just about
everyone... The bike riders love it as is an
easy stop on many coastal
bike routes, and you can just leave your bike out the front
in view.
Locals love it for their great coffee and food and of course yummy
sweets.
Their pastry chef Amanda works wonders with so many things to
choose from that
are all super delicious! Its hard not to order
something naughty when you pop in.
Great in winter with warm sunny spots inside, and loved in summer for
its ample outdoor
areas. Out the back is totally set up for young kids,
with play equipment, cubby and sand
pit and loads of tables in the
sunshine or shade. Its our regular stop!
Cafe Moby's front outside area overlooks the water across the reserve - kid free zone.
Ki, Hannah and Tara look after us all at Cafe Moby. Moby's backyard is super kid friendly
with its play equipment and fully
enclosed!
We all love the park!
Need to get some built up energy our of the kids - young or old?
BOB
PETTIT RESERVE
Sunset Strip, Jan Juc
The park is just two minutes walk down the road from Coastal Domain. If
you have kids then
its a great way to get some fresh air and let the
kids go wild! Amongst the sports reserve
there is a small skate ramp,
mini basketball court, a fantatic playground for kids of all
ages and
picnic and bbq facilities. My kids just love it!
Hunter loves the swings, and the tunnel, so much to do at Bob Pettit Reserve.
I went to market…
COWRIE COMMUNITY MARKET
A friend and I walked the lovely cliff-top track
(can jump on it from the end of Domain Rd) into the Torquay foreshore
and made our way slowly through the markets activities. Its an easy,
scenic 40 minute walk past the Jan Juc and Torquay surf beaches. I love
to do this walk when the market is on as its great to stop for a rest at
the market and have lunch and listen to some live local music before
the walk home again.
The market seems to be getting bigger every year,
its an impressive 100 or so stalls and is a great place to take the
kids. I bumped into some friends (of course, all the locals are there)
and watched their kids have some fun on the free jumping castle and get
their faces painted. Flynn and Leila particularly liked the blue
ice-cones.
I love to stock up on the amazing soaps from my
favourite soap man, though there are a few to choose from, and its great
to find pressies for upcoming birthdays. Naturally by the end I just
love sitting on the grass and eating some delicious food – I just can’t
go past the Tibetan Momo’s with home-made chilli sauce, but the kids go
for the sausage sizzle or the Dutch pancakes – what are those things
called again?
Overall it was a great start to the day. I strolled
back along the beach with a friend, tongue-wagging the whole way. Good
way to get my exercise too, without even feeling it.
Don’t forget to check for the next months market
dates! It’s a must.
Cowrie Market: Live entertainment and Tibetan Momos - Yum!!
Cowrie Market: Flynn and Leila enjoying a chilling blue ice-cone. And the great, cheap plants!
